Magnus Tate (1760 – March 30, 1823) was a U.S. Representative from Virginia. ==Biography== Born in Berkeley County, Virginia (now West Virginia), Tate studied law. He was admitted to the bar and practiced. He engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was appointed justice of the Berkeley County Court May 19, 1798. Sheriff of Berkeley County in 1819 and 1820. He served as member of the house of delegates of Virginia in 1797, 1803, 1809, and 1810. Tate was elected as a Federalist to the Fourteenth Congress (March 4, 1815 – March 3, 1817) with 63.35% of the vote, defeating fellow Federalist Francis White.
